All Stations

All Stations

We will start with "All Stations". As you might have guessed, this gives a list of all stations on the Metrorail system. They are sorted alphabetically ascending. You can scroll and select a station, or search and select for a particular station.

A second way to select stations is by selecting the station line. Metrorail has 6 lines, and they are listed in the image on the left.

The figure on the left shows the sequential list of stations in the Red Line. Favorite stations are shown in red color, except for Red Line Station favorites that are shown in white.

Here on the green line, Columbia Heights and Ft. Totten are two of my "favorite" stations. It's important to add Favorite items - these are the stations, that will show on your Apple Watch.

From the main menu, you can see there is a metro map. This is interactive. First position the map so you can see where you want to go. You can pinch and spread the map to see closer or further away. Touch the station, and you'll see a similar screen to the one just above.

Also from the main menu, there is a Local map, that shows where you are, and where there are nearby stations. You can also pinch and spread this map to hone in on directions. To get the options screen, tap on the + icon. To get directions from your current position to the station, press the right-angle icon.

While some transit systems offer a flat-rate fare basis, Metrorail charges  from your first to last stop. Fares change for peak and off-peak times, and are reduced for geezers such as myself. In Transit DC, you can see the fare from your start station to any other station in the system.

Metrorail shows alerts for train and track issues, and also for elevator problems. There used to be a lot of elevator issues. Now, due to the virus, and delayed maintenance over the decades,  it's the other way round.
