While I list all local jurisdictions here, Metrobus has the most reliable information.Their data people are superb. The other jurisdictions are best used for scheduling. Schedules are not changed too frequently, so I refresh them once per month.
I'm showing here the functions for Metrobus. For suburban lines, the screens are pretty similar, so I won't go through them here.
This is the screen when you select "All Routes" from the metrobus main screen. You can search for a route or location.
You probably know where you are locally, but if you are downtown, or crosstown, you may want to know
1. What routes and stops are near you, and
2. Where are local buses right now.
The image on the left below shows local stops and routes at the stop
The image on the right shows buses near you right now. These functions can help you choose alternate routes to your destination
If you tap on a bus stop, you can see all routes that stop there.
Once a route has been selected (by list, or by map), you will see all stops on the route. You can select North South direction, or East West, depending on the route. Next, I select the bus stop where I wish to catch the bus. You'll then have the choice of "Adding the route/busstop to Favorites, the "Schedule" for that stop, and "Next Bus" times.
It's important to add favorite stops to your favorites, as 1) you won't have to navigate the screens above, and 2), the list of favorites is used by the Apple Watch app to show schedules for that stop.
Once you have picked a bus stop, the app can show you next bus times. This is updated once per minute. If there are no buses scheduled within the next 30 minutes, you'll see an alert.
There are several standard bus fares as of early 2020. $2.00 minimum and $3.85 maximum is the off-peak fare. $2.25 and up to $6.00 are currently the maximum rush hour fares. There a lots of ticket purchase options that might save you some money - mine is the best - it's the senior citizen deduction. I pay half the peak fare People with disabilities also pay this fare. Hey, I'm over 65, and have disabilities, how come I don't ride for free?
Metrobus has some express bus routes, and these charges are by route. As with regular fares, the app tries to keep these current,
Metro publish alerts for their bus routes. Usually, there are a few - downed trees, traffic prioblems, etc. As in write this in the time of unchecked viruses, there are dozens, It's fantastic, IMHO, that Metro staff can keep this up to date.
